This book is for people who are curious about what psychoanalysis has to say about how we all function and behave in our everyday encounters and relationships with one another.It is for those who are interested in the unconscious aspects of the mind, and the impact of emotional experience on our daily decisions, both small and large.It is different from other introductions to psychoanalysis in that it is not intended necessarily for people who hope to become counsellors or psychotherapists themselves, but for people who are interested in, and perhaps puzzled by, the behaviour of colleagues or friends or family members.It would be helpful to people who's work involves managing others and to those who work with vulnerable or challenging adults or young people in a variety of situations.It would be useful, and interesting, to the student who is thinking about including the study of psychoanalysis in their academic career.This book consists of 8 chapters of about 5000 words each, and a timeline that shows the place of the subject of each chapter in the historical development of psychoanalysis.The chapters cover the basic concepts that can help in understanding everyday encounters, and in so doing can lead to wiser and more considered decision making.
